{"id":2082,"date":"2023-02-15T03:28:23","date_gmt":"2023-02-15T03:28:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aldiatodayusa.com\/?p=2082"},"modified":"2023-02-15T03:28:23","modified_gmt":"2023-02-15T03:28:23","slug":"how-can-2-1-1-brevard-help-a-teen-or-tween","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aldiatoday.com\/index.php\/2023\/02\/15\/how-can-2-1-1-brevard-help-a-teen-or-tween\/","title":{"rendered":"<strong>How Can 2-1-1 Brevard Help a Teen or Tween?<\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>By: Renee Ruffin-Price<br>For: AL DIA TODAY<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Life is 24\/7, and so is 2-1-1 Brevard!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Belinda Stewart, Communications Manager for 2-1-1 Brevard, explained that trained specialists are available to answer calls from anyone who dials 2-1-1 for help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most calls come from adults, but the phones are staffed around the clock to respond to people of any age who are in any kind of crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stewart said they know that some of our teens\/tweens are in trouble, especially given the recent and disturbing uptick in the number of youth suicides on the Space Coast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They also know that adolescents aren\u2019t reading about this service in the newspaper or even online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parents, teachers and other adults who interact with teens\/tweens are being asked to please share these messages with them:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>2-1-1 is a phone number a teen\/tween can call to share experiences and get support whenever they need it. This service is confidential.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>While part of what is done is called \u201ccrisis and suicide intervention,\u201d the specialists can also just listen. Sometimes someone may just need to talk.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Stewart shared that 2-1-1 Brevard is part of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, answering calls to the hotline that originate from the 3-2-1 area code.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their work in teen crisis, in fact, dates to 1968 when 2-1-1 began operation of a Teen &amp; Suicide Hotline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2-1-1 supports the Youth Mental Health Task Force\u2019s effort to \u201cStart the Conversation!\u201d and encourage teens and adults to be there for anyone in crisis: \u201cSTOP. ASK. LISTEN. ACT.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Warning signs can be found at suicidepreventionlifeline.org. And remember, the crisis lines are available 24\/7.
