Zermeno\u2019s philanthropy has expanded to various ways to protect disadvantaged families through its food pantry and thrift store, benefiting 14,000 people each year.<\/em><\/strong><br><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDue to the pandemic, it is a huge help to many families since so many parents are unemployed and do not have access to these resources right now,\u201d said Jesse Zermeno, the organization\u2019s founder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since starting Operation Hope in 1997, the organization\u2019s Back to School program has delivered needed supplies to thousands of children, thanks to donations given by public and private institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"577\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/aldiatoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/jessecaptain.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1855\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aldiatoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/jessecaptain.jpg 577w, https:\/\/aldiatoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/jessecaptain-173x300.jpg 173w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 577px) 100vw, 577px\" \/><figcaption>Jesse Zermeno, President and Founder of Operation Hope, recently received a donation from Captain Harris Resort in Sebastian Florida. [Photo: For AL D\u00cdA TODAY}<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The process of distributing school supplies generally takes place within the Operation Hope Community Center, but this year was different due to COVID-19. To guarantee compliance with the safety protocols, families remained in their vehicles while the foundation\u2019s volunteers handed them the supplies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That same day, Operation Hope also gave out food to those in need.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zermeno said the foundation increased its food distribution program after pandemic started in order to support dozens of families who receive this service twice a month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Food is donated by public and private companies as well as organizations. A large amount of the donations come from the Treasure Coast Food Bank in Fort Pierce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis year\u2019s Back to School event was fantastic because we received so many donations for children and their families,\u201d Zerme\u00f1o said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat fills us with immense joy. I am very happy to be able to help others in the midst of this unprecedented situation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zerme\u00f1o also thanked his army of volunteers for their hard work and support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMany people, businesses, volunteers, and churches have stepped forward to help serve our community and we are grateful for all of the support.
